What is Doula Accreditation?

Introduction to Doula Accreditation

Doula accreditation is the process of officially recognising a doula’s commitment to meeting high professional standards. At The BirthBliss Academy, accreditation isn’t just about completing a certain number of births or postnatal jobs; it’s about ensuring you are well-equipped to support families with confidence, knowledge, and compassion.

Becoming an accredited doula through The BirthBliss Academy means that you’ve committed to continuous learning, reflection, and growth. Our accreditation programme is designed to provide the support and structure you need to develop your skills, both as a birth worker and as a business owner.

Why Accreditation Matters

Accreditation is a mark of professionalism in the doula world. When you become accredited, you're telling potential clients that you have achieved a certain level of experience and knowledge and that you are committed to providing excellent care. Here’s why accreditation is so important:

  • Builds Trust: Families choose accredited doulas because they know they can trust your knowledge and the care you provide.

  • Professional Recognition: Becoming accredited helps establish you as a respected professional in the doula community.

  • Continuous Growth: Accreditation isn’t a one-off event. With mentorship and feedback throughout the process, you’ll continue to develop your skills and improve your work ethics.

  • Boosts Your Career: Being an accredited doula opens up more opportunities for you, whether you're starting your own business or seeking employment with other agencies.

Accreditation vs Certification

Many people confuse accreditation with certification. While certification may focus on specific competencies, accreditation goes further. It looks at your overall development as a doula, your ability to support families emotionally and practically, your understanding of birth physiology, and your capacity to run a successful business.

What You’ll Gain from Accreditation

When you complete your accreditation with The BirthBliss Academy, you will:

  • Have confidence in your doula skills and abilities.

  • Be recognised as a qualified and professional doula.

  • Receive ongoing support and guidance from your Doula Coach.

  • Be part of a network of trained professionals who are committed to supporting each other.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

The accreditation programme includes a 24-month period of coaching and mentoring, and this time period starts once you have signed up with your Doula Coach. Extending the time beyond 24 months will require you to re-apply and pay additional fees to continue your accreditation journey (any jobs already signed off can be carried forward).

There are circumstances where you can put your accreditation programme on-hold and pause it with the intention of continuing at a later date. These circumstances include bereavements, long-term health issues and maternity leave.
